Program Notes
This piece is inspired by "Saturday Morning: Cartoons' Greatest Hits," a tribute album where 1990's alternative rock bands cover songs from children's shows of the 1960's and '70's. This combination of elements struck me as odd. The inclusion of alt rock groups is clearly designed to appeal to Generation X and older Millennials, while the choices of songs for the project are an appeal to the Baby Boomers who grew up watching the represented shows. This piece is crafted around this dichotomy.

The material is broadly divided between two effects: distortion and reverb. Distorted samples reflect the abrasive, anti-conformist aesthetic espoused by many alternative groups of the early-to-mid '90s. This contrasts with sections that place great emphasis on reverb and vaporwave-esque cuts. These represent the album's attempts to play towards one's nostalgia. I find these efforts comparable to those of many vaporwave projects.
