Program Notes
Love is one of the most common musical muses. Many compositions about love emphasize the positive emotions associated with it: joy, devotion, etc. However, love is a very strong emotion and can contribute to negative feelings, such as anxiety, frustration, guilt, and uncertainty. My composition love song is a portrayal of the less satisfying side of love that is infrequently portrayed in music. The loud, caustic chords reflect the pain and confusion that can come from love, while brief melodic sections imply a more positive passion that is overwhelmed by the surrounding anguish.
